NANOG Program Committee

The NANOG Program Committee solicits talks, works with potential speakers to refine presentations, and reviews proposals for technical accuracy and relevance presented at NANOG meetings to the NANOG audience. The NANOG Program Committee reviews presentation abstracts and selects talks based on applicability to backbone engineering and timeliness of the topic. The group comprises operators, researchers, and industry leaders, appointed by the Board of Directors. You can reach the PC at [email protected].

Steve Feldman has been involved in computer networking since 1978. He has worked in software development and network engineering for Tymnet and MFS/Worldcom, where he was the principal architect for the MAE Internet exchanges. Since then, he has gone on to work for several startups and acted as an independent consultant, and is now a network engineer for CBS Interactive (formerly CNET Networks). He was also chair of the NANOG Program Committee from 2005 through 2007. Steve received B.S. and M.S. degrees in Computer Science from the University of California at Berkeley.

Jeff Bartig

Jeff Bartig is a Senior Network Engineer and Architect in the WAN Engineering group at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Jeff’s focus since he joined the group in 1995 has been the University’s external connectivity and backbone engineering for WiscNet, Wisconsin’s research and education network. Jeff served as WiscNet’s lead engineer and peering coordinator until earlier this year. Jeff was involved with the creation of Wisconsin’s first peering exchange, MadIX.

Cat Gurinsky is a network engineer at Apple working on global large scale datacenter deployments. In previous network engineering roles at Valparaiso University, Switch & Data, and Equinix she has worked on everything from enterprise and wireless deployments to internet exchanges and data centers. She first started working in network engineering in 2007 and began attending NANOG in 2009. Cat has previously served NANOG as part of the Development Committee from 2011-2012. Cat has a passion for BGP, Python, network tools, automation and anything that can help make life easier in large scale networks.

Greg Hankins

Greg Hankins has been attending NANOG since 1998, first as a network operator and now as a hardware vendor. He also attends APRICOT, Euro-IX, various Peering Forums, RIPE, and regional operator conferences where he frequently speaks on network technology and operational topics. Greg currently works as a Senior Product Line Manager for Nokia. In this role he works with service providers and Internet exchanges around the world as a product specialist, and he’s an active member of the network operator and peering community. His combined operator, customer, and vendor background give him a unique global view on current issues, topics and trends in the network operator community. In a past life, he organized four Annual Linux Showcase (ALS) conferences, hosted NANOG 21, served on the 1998 FREENIX and 1999 O'Reilly Open Source conference program committees, and served on the Linux Journal magazine advisory board. Term ends October 2013.

Prior to this, Brad was at Yahoo where he was responsible for their Global Interconnection Strategy. His very first NANOG was NANOG52 in Denver and from that meeting he has tried to better the community. He previously served on the Nanog Communications Committee and has been a member of the Program Committee since 2016.

Steven Schecter is a Senior Network Architect at Akamai Technolgies Inc. Over the past 15 years, Steven has held engineering and architecture roles at Cablevision, Net Access, AboveNet, and Globix. He has extensive experience in ISP/access, Data Center, Eyeball networks, and CDNs. He most recently spent the past 6 years at Cablevision as a Senior Engineer within their strategy and technology (Office of the CTO) group. Steven began attending NANOG meetings in 1999.
