I don't do sync serial on anything.  As result, I don't know much about
the sync serial devices that are available.

I have built 6 linux routers either for use in our network or for
customers who couldn't afford Cisco or Juniper gear.  They're all BGP 
speakers with an average of 90K prefixes and 3 peers.

Here is the output of sh ip bgp sum on one of these routers:
