John Curran, ARIN

John Curran is the President and CEO of the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), responsible for leading the organization in its mission of managing the distribution of Internet number resources in its geographic region. He was also a founder of ARIN and served as its Chairman from inception through early 2009. John’s experience in the Internet industry includes serving as CTO and COO for ServerVault, which provides highly secure, fully managed infrastructure solutions for sensitive federal government and commercial applications. Prior to this, he was CTO for XO Communications, and was integral in leading the organization’s technical initiatives, network architecture, and design of leading-edge capabilities built into the company’s nationwide network. Mr. Curran also served as CTO for BBN/GTE Internetworking, where he was responsible for the organization’s strategic technology direction. He led BBN’s technical evolution from one of the earliest Internet Service Providers through its growth and eventual acquisition by GTE. He has also been an active participant in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), having both co-chaired the IETF Operations and Network Management Area and served as a member of the IPng (IPv6) Directorate.

Scott Mansfield, Ericsson

Scott Mansfield is a Lead Architect at Ericsson focusing on wireline network management standardization strategy. Scott is active in IETF serving as a co-chair of the ISOC Advisory Council and as the IETF - ITU-T liaison coordinator. Scott is also an Associate Rapporteur in ITU-T Study Group 15 Question 14 and a document editor working on Ethernet, OTN, and MPLS-TP protocol neutral network management modeling. Scott serves on the Board of the Directors for the MEF and is active in the area of Network Management Marketing.

Alissa Cooper, Cisco Systems

Alissa Cooper is a Distinguished Engineer at Cisco Systems, where she is responsible for driving privacy and policy strategy within the company's portfolio of real-time collaboration products. She currently serves as Real-Time Applications and Infrastructure (RAI) area director within the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Previously, Alissa served as the Chief Computer Scientist at the Center for Democracy and Technology, where she was a leading public interest advocate and technologist on issues related to privacy, net neutrality, and technical standards. Alissa holds a PhD from the Oxford Internet Institute and MS and BS degrees in computer science from Stanford University.

Mehmet Akcin, Microsoft

Mehmet Akcin is Internet Evangelist in Microsoft’s Global Network Services (GNS) team. GNS delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, SkyDrive and the Windows Azure platform. Prior to Microsoft, Mehmet has worked at ICANN for over 7 years responsible of DNSSEC signing of Root-Zone. Operations & Architecture of L-Root name server as well as its global expansion to 150~ sites. Mehmet is founder of Turkish Network Operators group and very active NANOG supporter as well as participant.
Abstract: ohn Curran will give a brief update on what is happening in Internet Governance this year (including the US Government's announcement to relinquish its stewardship of the Internet names and number system to the global community), what it means to the Internet operator community, and how operators who wish can become involved to shape the final outcome.
