Firefox has a gazillion "advanced" config settings that allow you to
remove all the fluff added to try to emulate Microsoft's virus explorer.

When I switched platform I went from Mozilla to Firefox and spent a fair
amount of time finding out how to disable those unwanted features.

Disabling the feature that send all your URL typos to Google was one of
the first things I strived to do.

When I type http://museum/ I get a "not found " error message. But
nslookup museum works.

With all the phishing shananigans, you'd think the folks outside of
microsoft who would strive to avoid features that could bring you to
unwanted destinations and they should just stick to feeding your host
name string to the resolver and letting resolver decide how to
manipulate that string to resolve it.
