Currently, the cost of a typical cellular Node-B is around 10k in sterling. Plus you have various infrastructure elements that don't exist in, RNCs, BSCs, and softswitches. And they cost serious money. Whereas the 802 technologies are natively IP and Ethernet, and the "business layer" stuff is basically the AAA and Diameter kit you already have.
