If you are looking at hotels in the Herndon/Reston area that are not walking distance to the Town Center then bus service might be a cheap alternative to rentals and cabs.

The primary bus system in the Reston area is the Fairfax Connector (particularly the RIBS buses I think).

Here is a link to the schedules and maps:
http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector/schedulesmaps.htm

Also check the Metro Ride Guide, as I believe it will also show Fairfax Connector routes to your destination if available, and it's simple - enter start address and destination address and it will figure out the rest:

Two other hotels that are worth checking:

Comfort Inn (~$100 per night, Internet rate)

Holiday Inn Express (~130 per night, Internet rate)

Neither is really "walking distance" from Reston Town Center but if you
get double occupancy with a friend and split a cab or rental car it's
much cheaper than the Hyatt.
