and boy oh boy do i agree with you!

however, the description of BATV as a "proposal" is a non-trivial point.
The document outlines ideas but there is not yet a serious, detailed
specification. (it is almost complete, of course, but that never counts
until it is released.)

At any rate, it will be entirely possible to use the 'private' mode of BATV
privately, without requiring or expecting broad implementation.

ps.  my original posting was not an indirect attempt to promote any
specification i am working on.  it was merely a direct attempt to
encourage folks to consider the strategic issues more.
