If they're only feeding it with 45Mb/s, the GigE backbone will be MUCH
MORE than sufficient, even if it were to only operate at 1/5 optimal.

The GigE backbone will support about 100Mb/s ports blasting everything
they can.  In the "real world", If you could expand nearly infinately
given the following configuration:

DS3 --> Router --GigE--> GigE-Switch
                          | | | | |
                          | | | | |----GigE-->10/100-Switch
                          | | | |------GigE-->10/100-Switch
                          | | |--------GigE-->10/100-Switch
                          | |----------GigE-->10/100-Switch
